Extending the life of your Skagen Studio furniture
Welcome to Skagen Studio, where we celebrate the natural beauty of wood through our thoughtfully designed furniture. Each piece of wood tells its own unique story, and with your new furniture, a part of nature comes into your home.

A living material
Wood is a living material, and its character changes over time. The color of your solid oak wooden furniture may deepen and develop a rich patina, making it even more beautiful with age. Variations in temperature and humidity can cause the wood to expand and contract, resulting in small changes and natural sounds, especially at the joints.
Solid oak in many finishes
Our wooden furniture is crafted from solid oak, available in various finishes to suit your style. We process all our wood ourselves, ensuring a humidity level of 6-8% to preserve its high quality and minimize the risk of shrinkage cracks.
Wood furniture care Guide
- Always keep your furniture 20-30 cm away from any heat sources
- Do not place your furniture in direct sunlight
- Indoor use only—please note that indoor furniture is not suitable for outdoor use.
- Natural wood—there may be color and texture differences between the extra leaves and the tabletop itself.
- Always follow the care guide
First things first—arrival
We hope you love your new piece of nature in your home. Upon arrival, it’s important to give your furniture a little time to acclimate. Treat it with a natural wood oil if needed, as the packaging may have absorbed some of the oil during transit. Allow the wood to settle by not tightening screws immediately—wait 2-3 weeks before doing so

Longevity for your furniture
Protect from heat and sunlight
Keep your furniture away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources to prevent fading and drying out. A stable indoor climate with a temperature of 18-23°C and humidity of 45-60% is ideal
Avoid warping
If the boards warp, oil the sides that are too low in moisture and allow the table to settle. If necessary, remove the boards and loosen screws to let the tabletop move freely. Oil the wood thoroughly and repeat every other day until the boards straighten out.
Daily care
Varnish, soap, and oil-treated wood: Use trivets or other protective surfaces to avoid stains from cold or damp objects. Wipe up spills immediately and always use heat protectors for hot items.
Cleaning: For daily cleaning, use a well-wrung cloth to remove dirt and dust. For more thorough cleaning, use a slightly wet brush or a cloth with wood cleaner, always wiping immediately afterwards.
Maintaining finish
For varnished tables, remember that moisture left on the table can penetrate the wood.
For untreated or soap-treated wood, lightly sand along the grain with fine sandpaper if fibers rise when using water or soapy water.
More thorough cleaning
To clean lightly stained areas, use a cotton cloth wrung out in warm water. For more thorough cleaning, use a soft, slightly wet brush. Always wipe off immediately afterwards, or use a cloth with wood cleaner. With light pressure and in the same direction as the grain, treat a larger area of about 20 cm in diameter to ensure no color differences. Afterwards, treat the table with oil and remove excess oil with a lint-free dry cotton cloth.

Caring for your new wooden furniture
Oiled or soap-treated wood: Over time, wood can lose its resistance to heat and moisture if not regularly maintained and treated. This simple and quick process should be done at least 2-3 times a year, or whenever the wood looks like it needs it.
Clean before care
Always clean the table with wood cleaner before applying a care product.
Natural oil or soap
For care and possible repairs, use natural oil for oiled wood surfaces and natural soap for soap-treated wood surfaces. Apply with a cotton cloth and polish the surface with a dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid macrofibre cloths or cleaners with grease solvents. Please do not use brown soft soap.
Moisturize both sides
Apply oil or natural soap to the underside of the table as well to ensure even moisture.
